I took out my 3.0 from my Ranger, It was pretty much down to the block when I took it out. Getting to the top tranny bolts was much easier this way. The donor engine I have is complete. Should I strip it down like the old engine? or try to drop it in all dressed up.
I was thinking of taking it down to the heads, what precautions must I take for the open valley and heads. I need as much space as possible to get to the tranny bolts again and all the exhaust bolts.
Any tips and tricks. Please let me know. thanks
If it's a 2X4 it's not that hard to take the tranny loose from it's mounts and slide it forward riding on a tranny jack or something you rig up. Then bolt the engine in full dress to the bell housing and slide them home together. Just another way to do it without tearing down the replacement engine seems to me. A 4X4 may be too much with the transfer case to move also.
