Got yellowed headlights?
Okay, I'm at Walmart the other night getting oil to service the truck. I pass by this package that says "Restore your cloudy headlights". It was a small silver bag about the size of a big ziplock, but skinnier. I'm thinking to myself, "What the hell is in here that could clear my lights?" I feel the package and it feels like there is some kind of paste in there. Then it hit me.......RUBBING COMPOUND!!!! They are sanding off the layer of yellow crap on the headlight. I had some Turtle wax rubbing compound on the shelf at home. (the green and white can) You know, the kind you use on your paint to remove scratches. So when I get home, I broke out the rubbing compound and a rag..........holy shizzle!!!! With about 5 min rubbing generous amounts of compound on the headlights each, they looked almost new. I couldn't believe it. The package at the store said something about a sealer as well. Sealer........Wax!!!! It worked great.
Now guys, I don't know how long this will last, or if it will do anything to the lenses, but it sure works for now. I couldn't be happier with the results. I was just about to drop a few hundred bucks on diamond cut headlights and upgrade the harness for a brighter bulb. Just because I was pissed at my yellow lights. Now, I'm just gonna go get some silverstars and let it ride. As far as I'm concerned, I just saved myself a ton of cash. I hope you guys get some use out of this, I think you will be pleased with the results. Later.
didnt go away. Now one has a crack in it (i think it was from a stray bird) so I need to just break down and get some new ones. But the rubbing compound does help with the yellow coloring
...use tube toothpaste!
Toothpaste has enough abrasive to remove scratches, yellowed by the sun headlamp lenses...and does a pretty good job.
