Deisel to gas ?
Well Im a newby and just found this forum, I find it very infomative and helpful. I currently drive a 7.3 idi turbo and want to go back to gas. If you were buying a 99 sd drw 4x4 v10 would you be afraid of 130,000 miles that has had regular service?. I know alot of things play into this but I drive about a max of 20,000 a year. The truck seems to be well cared for. Thanks for your time I,m looking forward to learning about this beast.
the 99,00 and about half of the 01 years had the weak spark plug threads. they could pop a plug out of not installed properly useing a inch pound torque wrench. if one did blow out it's time for a thread repair kit from timesert and updateing all 10 to the new plugs and full depth theads.

bad thing is, 1) i don't NEED it, 2) i'm about the 15th guy that's called she said, and 3) she "thinks" it's already sold (whitch is good for me, keeps the old lady off my azs, hahaha). she had a guy ask if he could bring her 1/2 this week, and the rest in anouther 2 weeks, and she will know if he's serious buy tomorow night!
there are PLENTY of gasers out there that people are "afraid of"! i bet you can run across one with a few less miles, and a few less $'s!!
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Just out of curiosity, why do you want to switch from diesel to gas? From all I've read
the 7.3's are great engines with good fuel economy. The V10's are great but with gas on the rise again, seems like a good time to have a diesel.

I will be real presumptuous and answer for josey321 and he can climb in and let me know if I am wrong...
As powerful as the old 7.3L PSD is, it has some draw backs...
1. Fuel mileage is not that great and fuel is more expensive
2. Oil changes are a pain and much more expensive
3. Air filter is MUCH more expensive
4. Coolant additives to stop cavitation are a pain to keep up with, and expensive
5. The danged things are noisy and stinky
6. Glow plugs and injectors are big ticket cost and on the older motors are a expense lurking around to bite you when you don't have the spare $1200~$2800 to deal with it
7. All these things are additive... and as the older truck ages you worry more and more about when you have to deal with maintaining the torque monster and this alone causes many owners to loose a lot of sleep
8. Many of us prior PSD owners found (many by accident) that the V10 powered Superduty was cheaper, easier to maintain, quieter, and had enough HP and Torque to generate a BSEG.
9. We banded together and post the praises of our exceptional $510 option 99Y motor. Some of the PSD owners lurk down here and secretly wish they had not paid $3700 for their cackle prone, stinky, noisy, expensive to maintain power option 99P
10. These lurkers have noticed that most of us sleep well every night, and in the winter have cabin heat in less then 2 minutes (they all secretly want a V10 simple as all that!)
You made some very good points and maybe I will quit my dreaded diesel envy.
My V10 really is a great truck.......just always wondering if I would like a diesel
better, but after reading your post and realizing I've put 30,000 miles on my truck
will just oil changes every 3000 miles, it is not expensive to maintain and very dependable.
Thanks for your post,
Jack
and on paper I guess that means a lot (although both trucks will pull the same load, and the V10 actually has a higher payload).I think though, I'd look for newer, lower miles, and lower price. Seems the V10 doesn't hold the value like the diesel and that's a win for those looking to buy used. I think you can do better than $11.5k
