I have a '99 F-150 SC, 4x4, 4.6L, with 48,000 miles. I drove approximately 15 miles, then parked for 20 minutes. When I returned, the truck wouldn't do anything when the key was switched to start. It's as though there was no power going to the starter. Could it be a problem with the immobizer system, or just a freak incident with how I handled the key?
The truck ended up starting after another 15 minutes and has consistantly started for the remainder of the day.
I had a similar problem with mine. When the truck doesnt want to start does anything else electrical work for example try turning on your interrior lights, ac fan, etc or does it seem like the battery is plain dead.
When I had the same problem it happened once in awhile but there never was a 15min wait for it to start. I would just turn it over 2-3 times and it would start. Got the neutral safety switch changed out and that helped some. A month or two down the road it just so happened that it did it again THAT time having to try and start it for about 15min, it started to do it more often and finally the starter soleniod took a dump.
The electrical in the truck still works when the engine doesn't turn over. I'm going to replace the neutral start switch and solenoid this weekend. Unfortunately, this problem isn't consistent and is difficult to test. Thanks,
A similar situation happen to me only my ati-theft light would blink like crazy. It ended up being no power to the computer, the wire had fell off the at the fuse block, quite tricky to figure out. yours sounds like the solinoid.
