I need help decoding the little metal tag attached to the rear axle. I have a 1992 F250 4 x 4 with a 351/auto. The tag has two rows of numbers/letters:
" 2 V1240 "
" 3.55 10 2 1 H02"
I think the 3.55 is the rear axle ratio. I want to know what type of rear end it is and what type of fluid I should put in it for maintenanace purposes?
Thanks everyone!
ps. is there an easy way to i.d. the front axle too?
The best way to find out what you have is to look on the drivers door post. Look on the sticker their under axle and see what the codes say. You do have 3.55 gears. If you have a letter with a number, then you have limited slip and will need some additive. If you are changing the differential oil, then I would put synthetic in it. If you have a F250 HD you have a 10.25 full floating sterling rear with a D50 front. If you have a F250 LD then you have a D44 front and semi-float something else in the back.
