Almost finished with my front suspension rebuild. For those who may be contemplating the Volare route because it's almost free, please consider the following. Basic rebuild kit with control arm bushings, sway bar end links, balljoints and outer tierod ends $132 (Kanter) Torsion bar to lower control arm bushings $135 (Moog) Torsion bar to frame pivot bushings $90 (Chrysler has them) I unfortunately still need a pitman arm for $100. There are alot of other front end parts I did not have to replace so it could have been much worse. A few other notes, some Volare style IFS use screw-in rather than press-in style upper balljoints. Fail to notice that and you will be buying upper control arms too. Don't even think about attempting rebuild without a torch handy. I hate heating up suspension components but it was unavoidable. The parts are too light duty to force apart without heat after 25 years. I still feel the above cost is worth it to avoid having to drive a worn out Volare disguised as an Effie, but I definitely under budgeted the project. Hope this is helpful to someone.
Thanks for the reality check. Sometimes a fella can be too clever by trying to do everything for himself, and end up spending more money than if he'd bought an off-the-shelf solution. I must love to do things the hard way, cause I do this all the time .
When you lay the smoke wrench to it, save the control arms etc. You know where to find me. I would not mind buying some spares to have around. I have a southern clip in mine but the ones in the yards up here are rusty.
I'll remember. Had a serious conversation with my fabrication man/mentor. The decision has been made.. As soon as we can get a pier built and a boathouse next to it... out comes the plasma cutter... out comes the Volare and in goes the Mustang II crossmember. Cleaner, prettier setup... more room for headers, parts easier to find and cheaper than Volare.. and a good reason for another article... stay tuned

Now you're making me feel bad. MII cleaner, prettier. OK, it probably is but we'll just have to see who can lower the left front an inch and raise the right front 1/4 inch in 60 seconds for free! Those torsion bars aren't all bad. Unless of course you are running airbags, then disregard this post.
