Well here goes the serial version has a slower baud rate than the USB so when viewing live data you may have to slow the refresh rate but while USB is limited in length the serial can have a cable up to 100'. Same is true with bluetooth there is just not enuff bandwidth to view all the live data at once without slowing the refresh rate but you do get ~30' of wireless coverage.

Its really what you have can support. If your computer does not have USB2 support get serial.

You will need an internet connection only to do updates

Make sure it has USB2 support (most do now)
I prefer Dell's but they are all about the same now as far as quality http://www.dell.com/content/products...=19&l=en&s=dhs
Get as big a screen as you can. And at least 512MB memory preferably 1GB with the new vista on the horizon.

thanks alan..ill write this down when i go to get one...my desk top is a dell i love it..had it almost 8 years with hardly no problems..only computer i ever had so buying them is new to me..the desk top is a 8200..windows XP...i think it has the usb on it...if not.. can i still down load usb here and use my lap top just for finding problems..that way i dont need the wire less internet..save me a little cash for more mods later lol...

hey that middle dell should do the trick right???? not bad for 689..maybe less for cash....

I've got a couple comments here.

1. Ron...I assume you're referring to my forums page and not being able to post questions. Please email me your login name there (sales@itpdiesel.com) and I'll check out your account and get it fixed for you.

2. To the best of my knowledge, you will NOT notice a difference in performance between the Serial and USB versions. In either case, the trucks data transfer capabilities are slower than the AE hardware as I understand it. I always recommend USB because many newer computers are not including serial ports now (my new Toshiba laptop doesn't have a serial port) and I'd hate for someone to get a tool and then not be able to use it with a new computer.

I hope that helps.

Dennis's customer service is unbeliable. I don't think the guy sleeps cause whenever i post a question he seems to answer it with amazing speed no matter what time it is.

I've dealt with Dennis in the past, I emailed him on a Sunday I believe about Jody's chip and wasn't expecting a response until Monday or Tuesday but got a reply back on the same Sunday. Needless to say, I ordered immediately This was a while back, awesome guy.

im an IBM guy not so much for the quality of equipment as its pretty much alike there
no one computer comp makess all the gadgets that go inside there machine but IBM tech support is far adn long the superior of the 2 manufacturers
when purchasing new equipment my rule of thumb is one down from the latest greatest available as leading edge technology is more often than not the bleading edge
its a much better bang on the buck there adn not so much of a hit in hte wallet at replacement time
