Is there anything wrong with putting longer shackles on all 4 corners? I have a 4in lift already. Just thought this would be an easy way to get a little extra lift. Seems harmless to me. I did this to my jeep and had no issues but I know these psd's are different animals. Thumbs up or down on this idea.....
No don't do it. On the front you will severly change the caster, and you will wander all over the road, and the steering wheel will be less likely to return to center. The truck won't feel planted on the lane. It will also raise your pinion angle, which puts the driveshaft at a steeper angle, because you are rotating the pinion of the pumpkin downwards if you lower the rear of the spring (pushing the frame up) Also on the rear it will do the same thing, you will probably have a bad driveline vibration.
Your rear shackles are inverted, so placing a longer shackle would lower the truck, so that is out of the question. The concept of longer shackles up front is ok, only if you lengthen the front fixed mount equally. Many "hanger kits" are available to do just that. Do be aware that the track bar will require some attention / relocation, as it may be too short after a 4" lift and hanger kit.
All he wants to do is just lengthen the shackle and nothing else. I had a leveling kit spring and i wanted more height too. Instead of ditching my new springs, i did a DR 4.5" spring hanger. The rear spring hanglers are 4.5" longer, however also the front spring hangers are much beefier than stock and are also 4.5" lower.
I have thought about it too, I was only looking at one inch. I couldn't figure anyreason against it, but if you want more than an inch you should look into a flip kit. Fabtech is 2.5" incase you don't need 8.5" of lift.
Thanks fellas.. I knew there had to be a catch. I think I'll just leave it alone with reguards to the shackles.. I had a hard enough time getting the right amount of carrier bearing shims in the first time and besides messing with the front end rather not do that again....
