just bought a 1969 19.5 ft Terry tandem axle self contained camp trailer and want to tow this trailer with the o'l f100. my truk came wit a 6 banger originally so she's got 7 leafs in back, 8 in front. what should i upgrade to for towing? and what about shocks? i belive i'll have to weld on a receiver hitch as well. i am planning on doing the disc brake conversion for the front so i can slow her down cause we gots some steep mountain passes here in colorado. by the way, rear axle is a ford 9 inch.
SABBATH:
My experience is to install class 3 or 4 load leveling hitch w sway bar or bar's and level lift arms. If using auto tran then 15000 # tran oil cooler in series w/ radiator. Stiffen rear susp. for stability (shocks, spring, tires). Install a electric brake controller .Feed electric trailer plug w good wiring technics and gauge size. I may use self reset circuit breaker on elec brk circuit. Make sure the radiator in good shape. You may want to chg gear ratio. 3.73 depending on hills or mountains. To much carb on hi altitude don't work well.
IF done right you will get a long fine. Don't short cut safety. Caddy 53 chuck
Sabbath: Remember that this truck is about 50 yr old .Don't overload it. A longer wheel base would be better.
Minimum tire- 30x9.50 15" LT 6 ply
Shock- Monroe gas magnum I don't care for air shock
Spring- 250 ? At least beef second leef below main leef buy adding another. I would prefer to have at least 1-2" of positive arch when loaded.
I realy think you should give this a lot of thought befor doing it.
How are the following?
Engine
Tran
Clutch
Steering Real important
Brakes
General condition of truck
Tires
