Adding a second water temp guage

Hello all! I posted this in the 87-96 forum without any success so I thought I would try the experts that hang out here. I want to add an aftermarket temp. guage to my instruments so that I can more accurately see what the actual temperature of the water is. I don't trust the factory guage very much since it seems to wander around the guage face quite a bit and doesn't really settle anywhere specific for very long. I have bought a new sender for the factory guage hoping that this will help a bit. I still want to get an actual temperature reading though instead of "C" or "H" or somewhere in between. My interest for this is because I have installed twin electric fans to replace the fan clutch and I seriously think that they are running far too often in our current -25 degrees temperatures. I have set the remote fan switch to 210degrees kick on and 195degrees kick off.

From what I understand in my research so far one cannot "tee" into the existing block location as the sender(s) have to be submerged in order to be accurate. I want to maintain the factory guage as well as run the aftermarket unit. Where else, then, could I install the sender for the aftermarket unit? I really don't want to drill and tap a new hole - I'm hoping that one of you sharp shooters will know of a plug that I can simply screw out of the water jacket somewhere and screw in the new sender. I will drill and tap if that is the only option - I just don't know where the best place would be.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

Mike

are there any pipe plugs on the front part of the intake where water runs thru it?if so you could put the sender in there.also could look at thermostat housing .sometimes there is a ported vacuum switch or a plug in it also.
