ok, my truck had a 12 volt system when i bought it. the original guages have no wires connected to them. if i connect them will the circut breaker keep shuting it down or will the guages work with the 12 volts???
what about the ammeter? it shouldnt matter if it is 6 or 12 volts right?
If you are going to keep the 12volts, you need a voltage drop or reducer. It's been discussed here on this forum many times, look at the archives to see how it's done. otherwise, you will fry the guages. That's why there's not any wires to them.
I've always heard that with the ammeter you need to reverse the wires. I'm not sure if your gauges have the little posts that the wires connect to, or they have a wire running through a clip. If it's a clip then just turn the wire around in the clip, so the part that was on the left is now on the right of the clip. If it's the kind with littl posts then just reverse the wires. That's what I've always haerd when you are using the stock ammeter on a conversion.

46 Fordtruck is correct about the ampmeter. Reverse the wires on the terminals or reverse it in the loop.
The guages will need 6 volt. I fixed mine by buying a battery with a 6 volt terminal in the middle. Have had no problems.
the battery with the 6 volt terminal in the middle sounds like the best way to go. is it available at your average auto parts store? where did you find yours? thanks, RC

Been using mine for a year with no problems.
ok, i was surfing the internet looking for voltage reducers. i found one in the jcwhitney catalog but i'm not sure if it is safe to use with gauges. can someone let me know if this one is safe to use.
also there are 2 different reducers that have different amp terminals.
one has 10 and 20 amp terminals, the other has 2, 3,and 4 amp terminals. which should i use for the guages?
