I"ve had several fixed . You can have small patch welded in and have it rust next to it in year or 2. Or get repair panel cut old out remove foam filler, rust proof ,and get 5 or more (last truck at 5 years still solid,) With the cost of getting the rust fixed (patched ) The Panel method was cheeper in long run, I live in snow belt/salt zone, now that the foam sealer is gone before every winter I pull a plug (my body guy put in) in the lower door jamb and spray use oil in there (couldn't do it before) as well as under truck and load up those rear wheelwell to .Good luck P.S. now that my "new" truck is going on 13 years old I take it to body shop every year .I drove 200+ miles one way to get it.
