Hi Folks,
I have always appreciated the good info on this site. Now I have my own specific problem that I can't figure out.
1999 EXPLORER EDDIE BAUER, 6 CYL. SOHV.
Have been driving the ride with no problems whatsoever. My wife last drove it(it's her baby) and parked it in the garage. It wasn't driven for a few days and when I went to use it it wouldn't start at all. Of course I asked "What have you done to the car?" (Wrong approach!)
The fuel pump works, the coil pack checks out with a voltmeter. The engine turns, it is not the starter. Checked voltage to the MAP and the IAC, check out okay. Here's the really odd thing: I replaced the fuel filter and the truck started right up. I thought problem was taken care of and had done the "Who's Your Daddy Dance" when after putting all back together, the ride wouldn't start again just that quickly.
I am at a total loss as to why it wouldn't start, then start and not start again. I can't stand the thought of having it towed to a shop and paying some schmo to fix some dumb little problem that I am just overlooking.
Please guys help me save some face here!!
Thanks for any suggestions.

Reason: need response
If you are sure the fuel pump is running, check your fuel pump pressure. You should also consider pulling the codes. There may be a code stored even if the CEL is out.
I could be a bad regulator. The only reason I suggest that is because when you did the filter, it would have relieved the pressure, and since it ran for a bit, perhaps the pressure changed/failed again. One of the key facts is as long as you are sure that the fuel pump is running, that rules out the fuel pump relay (common problem) and the inertia switch. Another thing to consider is the crank shaft position sensor. Are you getting spark at the plugs?
It could also be the ignition system. Have you checked to see if you have spark at the plug wires. If no spark, next assumption would be fuel, assuming you've checked to make sure the IAC isn't having issues. Have you tried starting it while giving it just a little gas?
