help tracking down fuel problem
my truck has been running so horribly (idling really rough, feels like its running quite rich) that i cant even drive it. its had a history of carburetor problems (my friend rebuilt the top end of my carb last summer, which seemed to work until now). It will start but it idles very poorly/roughly and dies within 20 seconds if i dont keep on the gas pedal . several months ago it was giving me fits, so I replaced the fuel filter and that seemed to fix it for a while at least. I've tried several times to adust the air/fuel mixture but the problem persists. The very last time i tried to get it running, i noticed some fluid and a little smoke coming from the tailpipes. I also noticed that there was a great deal of gas leaking out from the top seals of the carburetor...i promptly shut the engine off after that, which was over a week ago.
what steps should I take? should I just replace the carburetor straight away, or could it have something to do with my fuel tank or fuel lines? Im going to try a new fuel filter tomorrow, but would a clogged filter cause my carb to overflow with fuel?
