i own a 94 ford bronco 302.The other day i went to check the timing and when the mark on the balancer should be straight up on tdc its actually 180 degrees off.I have it on the right wire. And ive also tried a different timing gun.Is it possible to install the damper 180 off?ive had the truck about a year looks like it ws takin care of pretty poorly before me still tryin to fix goofs.Any help would be greatly appreciated..
are you sure you are looking at the right mark. i know on my truck there is a groove in the balancer that looks like it would be a timing mark but it isn't. there are degrees etched into the balancer and you have to mark it with white out at 10 degrees BTDC.
If you cant see it when the timing light is operating on it, lay under the truck and bump the starter till you can see where they are supposed to be. They have a tendency to get filled with dirt and other crap, and the paint will faid off the marks. What I did on my old 78 bronco was I first found them and then ran the truck while holding a wire brush to the balancer from the underside. This is by no means the safest idea out there, but if you are carful and only run the truck at idle, you should be ok. I still have all my fingers.
