Hello, I have a 1976 Ford Courier and wan to put a carburated 5.0L with a T5 in it. I've looked all around this forum for any threads about V8 swaps. Where do I find information or other threads on this?? Thanks
WOOT!!! another fellow 76 ford courier owner i own one to they are sweet trucks . but to answer ur question it will fit on ebay right now theres is a 74 courier with a 400 sbc engine. go on ebay and u can check it out, i would give u the link but my work restricts auction sites.
do u have any pictures of ur truck? havent seen any courier on the road other then mine.
I use to drive this truck daily, but unfortunatly one day I used another car to help me stop. Kinda messed up the left front fender and grill and bumper. It has been sitting for a few years and froze up. I will either put the 5.0L in or rebuild the 1.8L. I would really like the 5.0 in and have a little fun. When I get it cleaned up a little I'll post some pics. I do need a hood, left fender, bumper and grill if you have any idea where I can get them. Nice to have another Courier fan out there.
I did this a few years ago, you will need a fox chasis (dual sump) oil pan/pickup, and a hydraulic clutch I think. Most sbf T5s came set up for cable, and most, if not all, Rangers/Couriers came with hydraulic (all I have seen). The owner fabbed up some adapter mounts, but you can get them out of a catalog. Headers are also available under the ranger lable.
Technical note, no a/c available, check steering clearance. Front end WILL sit lower. steering will be affected. EXTREMELY TIGHT!!!!
Custom exhaust can reuse exhaust logs if desired.
Oil filter relocation kit recommended, not required.
Serpentine pulleys only. Flex-fan prefered, elec. can be used, but watch water temp
351W/5.8L can also be used, but no room for heater core.
7.5 in. axle can be used. If so, recommend only 2bbl w/ stock or extremely mild cam
Would also recommend a cowl hood for ventalation.
Should get mid 20s for milage, but small tank will mean more trips to the pump
hope this helps. doing kinda the same thing to my 85 Ranger 4x4. 3.8L TBI, AOD, NP205 t-case. the 3.8 will give comperable power, but lack of 2 cylinders will give much needed space and not so much weight on the front end.
