Heater Controls

I bought a '72 F100 Sport Custom with 59,000 original miles about a year ago and just got around to driving it yesterday. (I drove it home when I bought it and parked it). The truck sat for 15+ years, according to the P.O.
It finally got nippy enough out here to try out the heater last night.
Everything works fine except the **** that adjusts from heater to defroster. It's very hard to slide. Before I rip into the heater control, is there something that usually causes that function to hang up? Sticky or dry cable? Sticky control mechanism? Something need greased or lubed? Like I said, it's been sitting for a long time.
I'm familiar with my '63 that I've been driving for the last 25 years but not this '72.

i stuck my hand in the hole instead of pulling on the wire, didn't want to wreck the controls. when you get the divider working freely, then play with the other end.

I used PJ1 motorcycle chain lube that penetrates like WD40, the solvents evaporate leaving the lubricant.

oh yeah,it gets pretty chilly during the winter nights. i bought my cables from dennis carpenters for like $10-20 for all of them. i had tried everything to get them free up,they just would not work, the truck had sat in a field for about 5 years,so that may have done it

With 30 plus years moisture in the cab they must of been too far gone or rusted up. Hows the new cables working?
I replaced the heater valve on the 68 with a plastic "newer better version", seems it has a shorter arm as the dash lever travels 70% before hitting the valve stops.

the new cables are working great! i installed them back in the winter of 2004,the old ones were rusted on the inside of the conduit and the cables would not slide.the heat and defrost work great, gets too hot!
