i have a '54 f100 that i'm building. i am currently looking for a 9" rear end. i've been looking in my area (texas) and have not found one, yet. a local salvage yard has a complete rear end from an '84 1/2 ton. what modifications will have to be done, to make it work? i'm new to this and i want to stay away from anything too complicating.

Search this forum and you'll find threads that talk about this swap. It should be easy to find a pre '72 9" rear axle and that should bolt up without much work.

I think you wil find the 80-86 F150 rearend to be a little wide(about 3"-4"). The 80-82 light duty F100 was available with the 4 1/2" bolt pattern for the wheels. Look for a 57-72 F100 rearend for a bolt in swap.

Search this site for junk yard inventories in your local area. There are lots of old axles out there, don't settle for one that will also need a ratio change to get what you want.
