Another starter question
Battery cables are new, chassis and engine ground points are bare metal, known good battery. 1954, original 239 and looks to be original starter. Only 56K on the truck.
However it cranks real slow and appears to be getting slower over time. In fact it turns over on 12V about the same as my 53 flathead on 6V!
I plan to pull it out and take apart, any words of wisdom?
Where can I get these high torque field windings? What do you ask for?
Is the 54 unique or will any Y rebuild kit be OK?

sounds to me like your startere is gonna go out on ya. I don't know where you are but, any generator or alternator rebulid place should be able to give you a complete wind job to the high torque you want--that's what i'm havin done to mine as we speak. Check your yellow pages for a alternator or generator rebuild company and they should be able to help you out---or you might want to try a higher CCA rating battery(cold cranking amps). Hope this helps---Happy Fording
