I've got a 2000 F350 PSD thats showing some blowby smoke from the oil fill neck. I couldn't get the search to run, so if anyone has some advice let me know. Is there an acceptable amount of blowby? What can I do to fix? Engine is stock now except for an air intake and has 164k miles on it. Planning on installing tuner soon. Is it better to solve this problem first before spending money somewhere else?
I'd make sure the crankcase is being vented somewhere first like the thingee on the intake is really open then look to see if there aren't other problems like really low compression or a head gasket leak. blowby out the filler neck usually indicates some type of a problem from annoying to severe.
Fumes from the oil filler neck is common. I have nearly 496k miles on mine and has had fumes since day one. Easier to see when its cold, but common. If your exhaust pipe blows white when warmed up or lack of power would be signs of bad rings or low compression. I put all my performance parts on at 300k ish and runs fine. You havent even broke in the engine yet.
Another thing to look at is taking the crank case vent out of the intake tube and reroute it somewhere else. I'm just not real fond of the idea of having oil and fumes being pushed through the turbo, through the intercooler and back into the engine. I've got mine dumping out right in front of the left rear wheel, going to be tapping it into the exhaust soon.
yes they are it is a common thing to do i am sure that someone will post some links...i have not done it on mine (still all stock) but on my wifes Jetta Diesel/TDI the ccv and the egr mix in the intake and cause a sludge to form and they require a 6 hours of labor at the dealer or a long day cleaning the intake sludge. i dont like ccv or egr, but TMO and it is there to help save the envrioment....blah blah
so dont worry it is an easy, commonly done task that i hope to get to myself if i can get some time.

Future mods...6637, Gaudges, 5" exhaust, DP tunner (in that order)
For the ccv mod alot of people just hang the tube by your rear bumber and it leaves a smell, some pipe it into the exhaust, and some do route it back into the factory tube in the intercooler tube. Amiller had a post on this where he ran a hose to a 4" pvc pipe and another hose coming out of the top of that and back to the factory location. The oil collected in the pvc and the smelly gasses where vented back threw the turbo. Here is a link of how he did his https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...&albumid=24742
I built the pvc parts the other week but haven't had the chance to put it on the truck yet.
alan??how is that working out for you??? did you put anything in the pipe to help hold the oil? like a scotch brite pad..would there be any benifits to add a pad???
I did by some steel wool to stuff in there when i get time to actually put it on the truck. Alan is amiller93 who is where i got the idea from. He was trying to build some kind of screen to catch the oil last i talked to him. If you look at the link for his gallery the out tube that goes back to the factory spot has holes facing up and is above the intake tube so oil shouldn't get out but the steel wool is a added insurance no oil will get back.
