This is my 1st time in this forum and I hope I can find some answers to
some nagging questions that few here have been able to answer.

I own a '99 F250SD with 5.4L Auto, 4.10 rear end, air shocks on
back end and only 45,000kms (about 30,000 miles). This truck never
left the town of Prince Rupert, BC Canada until I bought it last
November and even then I've only racked up 6,000 km in a year.

One thing I don't get are the front end ball joints. Had the right one
replaced when I bought it and the left one last month. Ford told me
that the right one was nearly shot again but still within specs (I got
the extended warranty when I bought it) but it to will have to be replaced
soon. Is this a problem with this vehicle? I rarely go more then a few
hundred feet off road to chop firewood so don't know why this would
occur.

Another issue is with my command start. It starts the vehicle
fine but my accessories e.g. running lights, radio, Heater/Defroster,
etc don't work and my console warning lights for AirBag and ABS remain
on! Once I put the key in and turn it to the ON position everything returns
to normal. Any suggestions?
Nice to be here and thanks for the help in advance

On the starter, there is probably a connection missing to your assessories wire. This should have been connected by the installer.

The ball joints are a known issue. There are no grease fittings on the stock ones. If you replace them with aftermarket ones with the grease fittings the problem should go away. If they are greased they last a LOT longer. Moog makes a nice one.

One thing I noticed: There are four ball joints, two on each side. Did they actually only change ONE balljoint the first time? Maybe the second one is now going?

And, WELCOME to FTE!

The accessories problems does sound like something wasn't connected during the install.

Question R/C starter & Ball Joints

Thanks for the replies. I will definately check with Ford to see which ball joints (upper or lower) were replaced but from the discussion we had it seemed like they were refering to the same ones they replaced 11 months/4,000kms earlier.

As for the R/C starter, I've been to the12volt.com site and learned that the reason my heater and running lights are not coming on and the ABS/AirBag warning lights are staying on until the key is in the "on" position could be due to a 2nd Accessory wire in the ignition harness that may also need to be wired into the R/C Brain. Currently I have only the Black/Lt. green access. wire hooked up but there is also a 2nd access-gray/yellow wire available.

My question is; if I am to add this wire into the R/C unit can I just splice it into the other accessory wire or should I use a relay. If yes, then do I require a relay for both accessory wires or just the 2nd one?

P.S. I had the system wired out of town and there is no way of getting it back but I am quite capable of fixing this if I can get some directions. It is much appreciated.
Thanks for all the help.
