Rust on chrome...

I was looking back at someone asking about getting rust of chrome...If you take a little steel wool say a SOS pad it'll come off quick .. Then put the polish it and keep the polish on it.....

Actually it is better to use some crumpled aluminum foil dipped in vinegar. It will remove the rust spots and stains. Rinse, dry, and apply polish.

Good advice...

The problem with using steel wool is, try as you might. you're more than likely going to leave small bits of steel behind after cleaning. And as we all know steel rusts.

The easy way .

It has worked for 40 years for me .. Steel wool and a little water has cleaned lots of chrome wheels , I don't think a piece of tin foil and stinking vinager is the way I want to clean a set of rims with spots of rust ..

Actually a chemical reaction occurs with the aluminum that removes the rust down to bare steel. It is a very good method that has been used for over 40 years. Try it sometime. Polish or wax seals the surface again. Steel wool will not remove the rust, it just smooths it over to rust again and can also leave scratches on the chrome.

I agree with the aluminum foil. I remember doing that on my bicyles when I was just a kid (35 / 40 years ago). Didn't use vinager, just used water. Didn't know why it helped, just knew my father told me that was the best method of removing rust and to this day, still is. (Brings back great memories)
