40mph vibration

I have a 2000 F250 SD 4x4, with a vibration at 40mph(+/- 2mph). I've balanced the tires twice, and it still does it. Has anyone else had a problem like this, or have any idea what it might be?

is it a side-side vibration or up and down? if its side to side its probably tie rods... if its up and down you may have warped your rotors since you said your tires had been balanced twice

It's not bad enough to tell which way it's moving. It's just a nuisance. I just replaced the rear rotors because one was warped from a stuck caliper. No change after that. I can't feel any pulsing in the pedal, to suspect warped front rotors.

When do you feel the vibration? Only when you apply the brake? Or at certain speeds?

Having a truck with that many years could mean that any ball joint, or bearing up front could be worn, a hub is stuck, or has not dis-engaged, or, may not even be from the front of the truck. That slip joint on the rear shaft that never gets any attention could be telling you, that it now needs some. Even the carrier bearing could use a little attention, even any of the u-joints could be crying for a little help. Isolating the problem, and determining exactly where the problem is originating from would help. (IE, front of the truck, or rear?) Does the steering wheel shake, is it under acceleration, deceleration, coast, braking...........?
Really sounds like a balance problem somewhere, now you just have to figure out which of the items in the truck that spins around is no longer the way it should be.

Hi , check out my post on the V10 forum, u-joints and the fix, it may help . That vibration at 40mph was my issue, and it was a u joint.

The steering wheel doesn't shake, and it does it at 40 mph no matter if I'm braking, accelerating, coasting, or whatever. I suspected the driveshaft, and checked it, thinking maybe one of the balance weights got knocked off, or a u-joint was bad, but I completely forgot about the carrier bearing, and slip joint. I'll check those this weekend.
