I have a 1993 F350 w/ 7.3 diesel and the oil pan is leaking , either from rust hole or pan gasket , can't realy tell . But from what I have been told you have to raise the cab and engine to get the pan out from under it. Was told about a day and a half labor and parts at a Ford dealer. Just wondering if anyone had a short cut that might help. Thanks Brian
I heard you have to raise the engine. There was a thread on this just a few weeks ago. Do a search. There were some good ideas. Also if you drop down to the IDI forum, maybe Dave or Pete or the other gurus can help.
You can just lift the engine to do that job, but it is about 3 steps less than the engine removal which as stated will give you more work area and a better job.
What ever you want to do.... email me (click on my name) and I will send you the How too info.
Mine was leaking also I drained the oil, cleaned the pan with lacquer thinner let it dry and coated it with epoxy, it's held up for over a year now. It's best to replace the pan but as you can see I think you’re better off removing the engine. I'm saving my beer cans for an engine hoist. I figure I'll get the IP, injectors, valley pan, valve covers, oil cooler and oil pan all at once come spring...
you can get the pan off without removing a lot of stuff---been there--three times--same vehicle--brother--what a story--anywho--remove mount bolts--board back of balancer--right next to timing cover--raise up--till stops--be careful--then put 2x4 between mount and frame holds--then--after drain oil--remove pan bolts--drop pan down--then have to reach up in to get pump bolts loose--and the lift tube nut on the center main stud--then take out pan and oil pump together--it aint easy--but possible--just take it easy--dont get heavy handed--then can clean all up and replace pan gasket--i glued it to the block with weatherstrip adhesive--so its held in place--and doesnt move--
