I was trying to decode the vin on my '79 the other day but was having some trouble. The first three characters (F15) stand for f-150. The next letter is the engine code, mine is a "J" which is a 460 4bbl carb. The fifth letter, which is the assembly plant code, is a "P" that means it was built in Twin Cities MN. The book I was looking at said that the remaining characters are numeric code for the vehicle build sequence. The remaining characters on my vin number are "FC5020". If anyone knows what they mean it would be very helpful. Thank you!!
Thanks for the help, It is just the serial number. It means the truck was built June of 1979. I was confused with the two letters at the beginning of the serial number.
Now that you know what your build sequence number on the vin means can you tell me what mine means. Its ec3976 off of x38skec3976, a 79 f350. I need to now the month and year of manufacture.
I tried, but I could not find the build date. I did find that its a '79 F350 4X4 supercab, 400ci 2bbl, built in Kansas City. It's harder to find info for the 350 compared to the 150.
