grumpy16,

Welcome to FTE lots of good people and info around here

To engage 4x4 low the flowing steps must ocurr.

1) Transmission in neutral
2) Foot on brake.
3) Forward speed less than 3mph (preferably stopped)
4) Select 4x4 Low.

Hope this helps

Not really.. the vacuum pulse is actually quicker when you switch to 4LO.
But do exactly as blackhat620 says and it should work.

Nope. It will go into 4lo on "auto".

My process:

1. Roll along in D about 5 mph.
2. Select 4hi, let it engage.
3. Stop, put trans in N.
4. Select 4lo.
5. Place in D.

You'll know it's engaged when you put it in D. It will try to overpower the brakes.

Well on the 6.0 PSD it is on the Passenger side fender.

I don't remember the location on the 7.3L i will have to look and post back.
If you look under your hood you should be able to spot the hard plastic vacuum line and trace it back to the pump. The line usually T's after the pump with a line running through the firewall into the interior of the cab and a line running over around the engine compartment etc.

Hope this helps

Thanks, thats why I asked.
I had an idea that they did to control the HVAC stuff but I wasn't sure.

i always have had the manuel lever for this reson, but the trick i have seen is shift to 4lo while in D going around 3-5mph put into N and slightly press break to more coast to a stop, then if it dont go in stick it in R and back up, put in N, hit break and roll to a stop. just kind of rock it like that till it works. dont be afraid to let it sit in N at a stop before trying the R...this is also how i have seen to get it to shift out. also is he going strait or turning?
