Question 4wd not working

I've gotta 99 f250ld with the switch on the dash for the 4wd. When I turn it to 4hi or 4low the lights come on and you can hear the transfer case engage but nothing happens. Only my back wheels are spinning. This is my first 4wd drive and i'm clueless as to what to do.
Can anybody help. Thanks

Check the vacuum lines to your shift motors on the front axle. Sounds like your front axle isn't engaging to the differential upon you switching to 4wd. You should feel two soft jerks as the transfer case engages and the axle engages to the transfer case. Maybe not in that particular order but that's the basic idea. Good luck.

Can't find the hoses

I've looked for the (2) hoses and can't find them? I found the round part with the cover, but there are only wires coming from it. There is (1) hose coming out of the front axle right below that round part. I followed that up into the engine compartment and it isn't hooked to anything. It just ends. Anybody have an idea??

The one hose coming out of the front axle *MAY* be it. It would be relatively small I'm guessing, no more than a standard No. 2 pencil width. I'm not entirely sure, I've never looked into it myself, mine just works. If it ain't broke don't f*@) with it is my rule of thumb. Maybe someone else could offer some helpful tips? Hope you figure it out soon.

The hose that you found sounds like the vent hose for the differential, but it should come out of the top of the differential housing. It goes up so water won't get into your diff if you go in a big puddle.
