4wd not working

4wd not working
I've gotta 99 f250ld with the switch on the dash for the 4wd. When I turn it to 4hi or 4low the lights come on and you can hear the transfer case engage but nothing happens. Only my back wheels are spinning. This is my first 4wd drive and i'm clueless as to what to do.

Check the vacuum lines to your shift motors on the front axle. Sounds like your front axle isn't engaging to the differential upon you switching to 4wd. You should feel two soft jerks as the transfer case engages and the axle engages to the transfer case. Maybe not in that particular order but that's the basic idea. Good luck.

There is (1) hose coming out of the front axle right below that round part. I followed that up into the engine compartment and it isn't hooked to anything. It just ends. Anybody have an idea??
