Well pull the resistor assy out of the air duct & inspect the resistor wire connections to the electrical connectors on the assy.
Seeing a how ALL slower speeds are noperative, I'll bet only one lead wire is open.
You may be able to fashion a splice, or temporary fix, until you can come by a new one after the holidays..
On two occasions, I've fashioned fixes for open, wire wound resistors, from retractable ball point pin springs, using my calipers to gauge the proper wire diameter & ohm meter to trim the wire to the needed resistance length.
Drilled out the rivit holding the faulty open circuit resistor & replaced it with my homemade one, held in place with brass screws & nuts from my "junk" drawer, in place of the rivit.
Beat the heck out of the $120 bucks Toyota wanted for a complete heater/fan speed control assy, for the daughters 77 Celica!!!!!
When she sold that puppy in 97, that home made fix was still in place & working fine!!!!!
Just some scheming & conniving thoughts to ponder!!!! lol
I had the same problem with my 98 Ranger. I replaced the resistor and it worked, for a few months. It ended up being the wire connector itself. The dealer wouldn't sell just that connector. They wanted to sell me the whole wiring harness. I thought it over and decided that if I went to a junk yard, I would probably be getting the same problem. I put new terminals on all of the wires and connected them individually, using an ample amount of dielectric grease. It has been working fine ever since.
Replaced resistor assembly ($19.25) fixed my problem. The connector was cooked pretty bad so replaced it too ($14.64). I believe water gets into the connector and shorts out the terminals so put a good coat of electrical tape around the connector backside. Thanks again to the postings.
I do not know the part #. I took mine apart ,water had gotten in and corroded the contacts where the wires connect. I cut the wires back bought new connectors soldered them in and wraped the whole thing in waterproof tape. Its been 11 months still works fine.
Anyone know the part number for the blower resistor assembly for the HVAC of my 1998 XLT 3.0?
From the receipt for the one I bought last week for my 98 XLT 3.0, it is 4LSZ-19A706-AA. The part number for the wiring harness is 91-6881. Total price for the two of them was about $48 plus tax (at inflated Canadian prices - may be cheaper in US). Take it apart before you drive to the dealer just to make sure you don't need both (I had to make 2 trips).
