need help please

my truck is an 84 300 6 on the way to work i notice it was running rough like the choke was on or it wasnt getting enough gas i had not been on the road very long. i pulled in to a parking lot and poped the hood when ilooked the exhaust manifold was glowing red. so i shut off the truck and let it set. i had no idea what was going on. i started to think the cats were pluged so i waited a while the drove back home. as soon as i pulled in the drive way i check it again it was hot but not glowing. i had to get to work so i took my s-10. while at work i was trying to figure it out in my head and i was talking to an insoulator i work with he told me of a flapper in side to make it warm up fast he said they allwas used to stick. so i got home and checked it mine moves freely but i notice the spring was broke. now i have a cracked manifold because of a dumb spring. is there any thing else i could have damaged during this. and could this be why my truck has been chugging when i hit bumps
