There are 3 different types of AODs. The 2nd generation seems to be the best from a bolt in aspect, IMHO, but any of them when tweaked & built will generally work fine except maybe '96 & later version A40DE, which I don't care for.
Just get the AOD built for the amount of Horse Pressure you expect to generate. . . .

Yes, as long as you have an engine with a compatible bellhousing bolt pattern. Also it will be a floor (cable) shifted set up & you will need an aftermarket throttle valve cable for your Kickdown.

You might try this website I found a while back. These guys really seem like they have quite a bit of knowledge on the AODs. They even have adaptors to bolt an AOD up to FE (360/390) and 385 series (429/460) engines. http://www.lentechautomatics.com/

ive only had 1 aod go bad and 1 shattered the bell houseing they were in demo cars, the one that shattered (14 runs it originally came out of an 86 merc) it broke an ear off and i just didnt have knowledge on if the other one was any good, ive ran about 5 or 6 of them and i love them they start slipping but is very hard to go compleatly out
