Carb problems killing me

I have an edelbrock 600CFM or something, its 4bbl.
I picked it up really cheap from a friend of mine who sold his engine but gave me a last minute deal on the carb.

I bought a rebuild kit and rebuilt it.
I believe i had the float wrong.

I started it and ... floods... badly

ok i try again... KABLAM!

Huge explosion in the carb that shoots flames i swear to god atleast 30 feet in the air.

Ok now the butterfly valve is stuck and will not close all the way.
You can lift it with your fingers, but cant close it.

And the throttle doesnt work.

I can move the throttle arm all i want but it wont move the butterfly valve in it.

Any ideas on how to fix this if possible?
Anyone ever had this problem?

I need some input before i buy a new carb.
thanks

Shafts bent, buy a new carb. I have had very good luck with Edelbrock carbs. Sounds like you should leave carb rebuilding to the experts. Usually all you have to do with an old dry carb is soak it in a little gas for a an hour or so. Then blow it off gently with a little compressed air and let it dry. Very few need rebuilding if they were running before.

Yep, you have destroyed the throttle shaft by filling the intake with fuel then trying to fire the engine.
