I have finally cobbled together a pile of "Y" blocks that I believe contain enough parts to make a running truck-version 292.
On the first motor, it is a '55 or '56 239 and is painted primarily red or orange. This is a car motor.
On the second motor which is a '60s era 292, I see traces of ford blue on the pan and the oil pan. I believe that this was a car motor as well.
On the '61 292 block that came out of '59 truck that I am working on, I see no traces of paint or it was black. This motor was missing everything except 1 head north of the head gaskets. It may have traces of orange but the motor's history is so unknown, I can't tell if it is a trace of orange or a trace of rust. This motor has a dual timing chain so I believe that it is a truck motor.
I have a '59 F-100 with a 292. It is the original engine. It has traces of both orange and Ford blue. The orange was limited to the air cleaner. I am curious to see the responses to this question.
Hi,
the 1959 Ford truck 292 color schemes I've seen were....
Block = black
Valve covers = blue
Intake = red
Accents = black (air cleaner, oil filler cap, starter, etc.)
My 1959 F-250 4x4 has the original 292 (19,000 + original miles). My first 59 F-100 had the original 292 as well. My dad had purchased it back in 1965. Both air cleaners were black.
Hope this helps.
