Hey Guys,
Wanted to say this is a KILLER site lots and lots of info. Anyway, I wanted to get a few opinions on the Banks sixgun and warranty. I have read many different things concerning different mods. One question I have is warranty. I will start by telling all the mods I have done thus far. I have an 06 250 fx4 6.0 diesel, so far I put an 8" lift, 38" grapplers, k & n cold air intake, 4" silverline exhaust, billet grille, billet bumper and tow hook inserts, Hid lighting and few other misc. items
I just ordered a sixgun with the pda and speed loader option, which should be here tomarrow. I plan on doing the intercooler soon also. I know most of the suspension will not be covered under the warranty but what about the engine with the sixgun, intake and exhaust? I hope I never have to worry with it, I bought the extended service plan when I bought the truck which was probably a mistake lol. Anyway, for what I have read some say they will cover some say no. And does anyone here have the sixgun, what are your opinions on it? Have you had any warranty issues with it? And last but not least, should I have the pc flashed before installing the tuner?
Thanks for ya'lls time......
Recieved some info on the intake, will probably be going back to the stock filter on this..thanks blackhat..
Well as far as tuner, intake and exhaust all can void the warranty on your engine. Some dealers look the other way with tuners, but if FMC gets involved in a decision and a tuner is installed generally it is so long warranty.
Basically if your gonna play, you gotta pay.
As far as the Banks system, i have not used it so i have no first hand knowledge. What i can tell you is Banks generally sells a good product it is just usually overpriced compared to the same or better from other vendors.
The tuner of choice around FTE for the 6.0 is the SCT with custom tunes for your application.
As far as A/M exhaust, cat back generally doesn't cause a problem with Most dealers, Turbo back is a toss up and depends on your dealer.
As far as flashing the PCM, if you are not currently having any driveablity issues with your truck then leave it as it is. If you are having problems, then take it in and let the techs diagnose and fix the problem before installing the tuner.
Others will be along with more info on tuners and the Banks system.
Hope this helps

Thank you, it does help. I did do the 4" from turbo back, and deleted the cat. Also I have been looking at the competion section that you mentioned, this site has soo much info, it's hard to find everything lol.. I noticed someone said with the a/m airfilter they were bruning head gaskests I asume. The more I read the scarier it gets lol.. Thanks again
I haven't seen the remark about A/M filters causin burned headgaskets, but the A/M filters can definitely ruin a turbo and cause excessive engine wear. As far as blown head gaskets, tuners can do that quick if you are not watching the EGT gauge and/or it is a poorly programmed tuner (there are a few of those out there).
Also if you get these motors to hot running a tuner and not watching the EGT you can melt the pistons. Generally melts the right side first. This can happen with EGT at ~1550 for about 2+ minutes.
There are a few pictures or this in the competition section.
Yes lots of good info and people around here LOL. It can definitely take a while to sift thru all of it.
I have the banks six gun with pda and speed loader. I love this tuner and the adjustments that you can make with the pda is great. You can custom tune the six gun and speed loader with just the push of a button. I drove my truck about 350 miles today with it set on 5 and I got the best mileage I have ever got to date. My mileage increase is 4 1/2 to 5 mpg increase. NO JOKE You can check for engine codes and if you ever do get any it will tell you code number and what the code means or what the problem is. You can adjust the amount of fuel that your engine gets between shifts, set the pda so that the engine has to be a certain temp before it will turn the fuel up any, set to defuel engine if egts get to high which you set your temps, defuel for trans temp, and even if it sences the trans slip it defuels. You have about 15 diffent gauges to chose from. boost, egt, engine temp, engine oil temp, trans temp, trans slip percentage, torque convert lock up percentage, load %, power %, intake temp, and many more. I run my six gun on 4-5 and when I want to play I turn the speed loader on. When you get your system installed you will have to go to the speed loader on the pda to enable the speed loader but after you enable it the first time you can just leave it enable and just adjust the setting on the pda 1-6 and SL. SL being speed loader. you have 7 setting with SL. I know I had the bullydog triple dog with outlook monitor I don't like the bullydog as much as the banks. I had alot more black smoke with bullydog and I have not seen any with banks, But I have not turned the accerlor pump up with the pda I left it set on factory setting from banks. It is only set to 50% from factory but like I said it can go to 100% with just push of a button. Hope you like your banks system as much as I do. If you need anymore infor on banks system just send me a e-mail.

So, if your going to spend money on a product that will possibly void your warranty, why not choose a product with safety built in. Banks, as far as I know, is the only plug in company the uses FEMA (Failure Modes Effects Analysis ) in their programming logic. This insures that under many adverse conditions, your truck defaults to stock power before trashing anything. We use FEMA in product design and manufacturing, it works and is probably the main reason why GM is working with Banks on product development. What good is all that power if it cant protect your investment.
I have the Banks "Big Hoss" system, the only regrets I have is not doing it sooner.
