I have someone that is going to do a long block rebuild for me on my 89 ranger 2.9 . He is going to bore , hone etc. ,put in a master kit, which will give new cam, lifters, pistons and rings. The crank will be turned , rods refinished and new bearings. I was wondering about the valves and rocker arms. I see one engine rebuilder that puts new ones in. Almost everybody else rebuilds the heads with the old valves after they are checked for tolerences and replaced as needed. The same with the rocker arms. Most people have told me it is a wasted expense to replace all the valves and rockers with new ones. Any thoughts from the experts?

It is until one on them fails.
It really depends on how long to want to run the truck. Those parts are worn and will need to be replaced someday. If money is tight you should be able to get more miles out of them. If your going to all the expense and trouble to rebuild it and are going to run it "forever" I would go ahead and replace them. You may want to check on new heads, as they may be cheeper then getting all the replacement parts. That will depend on the level of price you can buy parts at.
if i'm rebuilding a long block then the head is gonna get all new parts as well as the block itself. y go through all that time and money to do a half butt job. I believe if you're gonna do it do it right the first time so you don't have to go back a second.

good luck
I agree - if I'm doing that, its getting new valves for sure.
