I have an '82 F-150, and my parking brake assembly is hanging down from under my dash. I can see that there is supposed to be some kind of bolt or something to hold the assembly up, but a regular hex style bolt don't work. The spot where the "bolt" is supposed to go under the dash is split into two sections. It looks like it's supposed to be like that, but I don't know for sure. If there is anyone out there that can send me a pic or a drawing of what holds up the parking brake I would greatly appreciate it. My email address is greasemonkey691@hotmail.com
Thank you
The bolt you are describing on my 1981 is metric, so that may be a problem, if you are trying to replace it with a standard one.
There should be a square nut tack welded to a square hole at the bottom of the dash where the bolt threads into. Sometimes (like on my 1981) the tack weld comes loose and the nut falls out of the dash, leaving a square hole instead. A standard nut and washer with a new bolt can fix this type of problem easily.
Also make sure the pedal is tightly bolted to the firewall. You can see these two nuts with threaded studs sticking out of the firewall, from the engine compartment.
One is directly above the other about 5 inches apart just below and to the left of the master cylinder and/or brake booster.
If you need a new pedal assymbly, 1980 to 1986 pickups and bronco are interchangeable. The pedal assymbly after Circa 1983 is of better design and I recommend upgrading to the later type if needed.
