The weatherstripping around the doors and windows is in pretty good shape generally but there are a few spots that are worn, with bits of the rubber missing. The biggest pieces missing are about the size of 3 stacked nickels. I'm trying to avoid completely replacing it and am wondering if anybody knows of some kind of rubbery filler I could use on the worn parts, molding it to shape, that would be soft enough when it dried.
And thanks for choosing FTE, your best choice for information for your Ford truck!
That said, I don't know for sure of any product that will do what you want. You may just have to experiment. It seems to me that the most difficult part would be getting the new material to adhere to the old weatherstripping and yet remain pliable. Pehaps silicone would do the trick. I would take a trip to the local auto parts and automtive paint stores and look at the various adhesives and fillers they have. I'm picturing in my mind a shiny black rubbery goo (that's not silicone) but I can't recall offhand what it was or where I saw it. Perhaps some other users here will have some ideas for you.
I had been using some Plasticote for another job and noticed that the leftover part in the can got very thick and dry on the surface but was still rubbery, and thought it might work for this job. But I dont know tho how hard it might get later when exposed.
