Post 351 in a 1960 f100

I have a 1960 f100 with a 262-6. I would like to swap the 6 for a mid 70's 351c. Does anyone know of any problems I might have with this installation? Truck will be used for some towing. This is the main reason for the power upgrade. any opinions on better choices for engine swaps would be appreciated.
Thanx,
krakrman

It is a pretty straight forward swap. There is plenty of room for the motor. I used prefabricated motor mount and a crossmember for my 351c/c6. LMC or sacramento vitage ford sells them, I think. The problems I had were minor. I had to grid down the motor mount just a little to clear the exhaust manifolds with the kit that I bought. Maybe a set of sanderson headers will fit better. I have tried other headers that I have come across, but the stock ford steering box was in the way. I welded in the motor mounts and bolted the crossmember so that everything can easily come out. I used a B&M shifter that used a cable instead of fabricating shifter linkage. The radiator had to be moved forward half an inch for good clearance. One could stack washers to space it forward if they had to. It isn't a big deal. The biggest problem I encountered was the stock radiator. Stock caps only 3 or 4 pounds. Clevelands used around a 15 pound cap. I put a 7 on mine at first and it would pop a hole in the radiator every few months. This got old fast so the local radiator shop found a new one from a later truck that they welded to the stock brackets. I have a 12 pound cap on and it hasn't ever come close to boiling over. Everyone has something to say about about the 351c. I put a holley 4v and edelbrock manifold, rv cam, no smog stuff, 2v heads, and stock everything else and it makes plenty of power. I just wish that there were more aftermarket parts to choose from. Once again it depends on what you want to do with the motor. Mine runs on 87 and I like it that way.Good luck.

hey i had a dream to put a 351 Windsor in my 1960. It does not fit at all if you are planning to used the original 4SPD. TRANSMISSION. the bolt pattern on the manual 4 speed will be 1/2 an inch off the windsors bolt pattern. trust me because i tried!!-Dan
