Any advice on reinstalling my E4OD into my 96 F250?
It looks like I need to jack the truck 2-3 feet in order to have clearance for the tranny ontop of my tranny stand. I do not know which is worse, a truck teetering on 2+ feet of blocking or having to bench press the E4OD into place?
The engine is in place due to hoist lifting capacity limitations...
Sorry, I should have mentioned that my transmission jack is the adaptor on my floor jack. At its lowest point the adaptor sits approximately 10" off the ground (the adaptor has the tilting base feature. When mounted to the jack, the bell housing of the E4OD sticks well above the frame rail (more than the travel of the jack). The situation gets complicated, because I need the truck up high to get the tranny under the truck, and I need the truck lowered so that the jack will lift the tranny up to the engine.
My removal method was to connect the jack, unbolt the tranny, lower the tranny, remove the tranny from the jack (by hand), remove the jack, and slide the tranny out from under the truck on a sheet of plywood.
Can you get another floor jack from a friend? If not, you are going to have to reverse your removal method. I pulled my E4OD out recently and used 2 floor jacks. I made a simple bracket for the trans from a piece of flat iron I cut 3 holes in. The center hole was for a 3/8 x 2-1/2 bolt that went through the jack and the other 2 holes were for the tranny mount. The second jack was used to raise and lower the front of the trans. Once it was out and on the ground, I disconnected the jack and dragged the transmission out from underneath the truck. I realize putting the E4OD tranny back in is a whole different ballgame but I used the reverse of the same method for putting a manual trans back in my truck. I had a heck of a time getting the E4OD properly on the engine and that was when they were both out of the truck. Good luck.
