I got this old ford that I bought like 6 months its a good running truck but ive had lots of problems with it wanting to die when i step on the gas from a dead stop it seems to be it seems to be ok if i let it warm up for like 20 mins and it goes from a stop if i baby the gas pedal im not very used to working on cars thats why i bought the truck to learn as i go if anyone has ran into something like this and would give me tips that would be great
a 1979 F-150? That is what I am guessing from your post... so I will answer based on that. It sounds like the choke is not working or misadjusted on the carburator. If you haven't worked on one before, read up and take a stab.. or better yet take it to a mechanic. I find carbs easy to work on, but that is from experiance.. since I am an old guy lol. Sometimes we forget how good we have it with modern vehicles. Hope that helps.. good luck.
You would probably get more responses if you posted this in the 1973-1979 forum. I would give it a full tune up, check your timing, vaccum, and vaccum leaks. Thats a good lace to start.
I would also say probable accelerator pump. With air cleaner off, truck not running pull the throttle back while looking down in carb it should shoot two small streams of gas as you pull throttle.
