Guess what? Another won't start thread

Hellp all,
I have on my hands an 88 F250 that refuses to fire. I know my way around these things a little bit so I'll let you know what has been done and would appreciate anything that maybe I have overlooked.

1st of all the truck is a bush buggy. I bought it to push other junk around my yard and have no intentions of putting it on the road. I just want it to start, and it doesn;t have to be pretty. It was on the road (previous owner about 5 months ago but has sat since then) and maintenance was not his #1 priority.

Problem - It will roll over no problem. It will sounds like its firing for 1.5 seconds and then nothing it just rolls and rolls. If I stop and leave the key "on" for a second and then try to start it again will stutter again for 1.5 sec's and then roll and roll with nothing.

Stuff I have checked:
The inertia switch it fine
The pumps are coming on. The one in the tank sounds a bit like its gurgling but I can hear it in there.
The truck has spark
It also has 8 brand new spark plugs
I changed the fuel filter. It was full of rust and crap and brown gas
The truck has fresh gas in it
When I push the little valve on the fuel rail on the intake gas spits out.
I disconnected the fuel line at the filter and when I turn on the key gas sprays out.

That's the stuff that I know which has led me to theories:
ARe the injectors plugged or not firing at all
Is the fuel pump in the tank clogged and not providing enough fuel (hence the rust in the filter)
Can something else be plugged up somewhere that I'm missing
Should I disconnect the fuel line at the filter and blow air through the sucker.

Oh ya and here's the catch. I've tried starting this truck like 75 times. Out of that it has started 3 times. When it does start it's really strong lots of power. There is no hesitation and no stalling and no misfires at all. I can stop the truck and it will start again as if there was never any problem. Leave it for 24 hours and the problem is back. So if and when I do get it going it runs strong but don;t let it sit for a day....

Any insight Ford Gods?
Remember it doesn;t have to run well just start and boot around the yard.

Tks

I would for a start get a fuel gauge and attatch it to the shrader valve on the fuel rail and see what kind of pressure you have. It is a good place to start.

If the pressure is low would you suspect the sending unit on the frame rail? How much presure should I have? I know that gas sprays out when I push the valve in with a screwdriver so there is some pressure there. I will get a gauge and check.

Any other insights?

I have found that checking for basic things when there is a problem is helpfull. It gives you a place to start and you can start eliminating what is working so you dont start replacing parts for nothing. Fuel pressure for the 5.0 is around 35-45 with the key on engine off. You may have to toggle the key on and off a few times to get the pressure to build up. If there is no pressure then you have to look at the pumps, fuel pressure regulator, injectors that may be stuck open. From the sounds of the condition of the fuel filter rust could have gone down the line but thats what the fuel filter would hopefully of prevented.I know the fuel spurts out but a gauge is the way to do a proper check.
