EGR Problems

I have a 98 Expedition 4x4 108k miles with a 4.6L in it. The check engine light came on so I scanned it and it was saying insufficient EGR flow so I put a new EGR valve and sensor on it. And the light came back on 78 miles later with the same code.
Anyone else experienced this?

yes!!!

sounds like the same problem...I bought a 97 exp xlt 4.6l in may and the engine light wen on within a week(on and off at different times) but now is always on. I took it in had it scanned and it said egr flow....I looked in the book of records for the truck and the egr was replaced no more than a month before I bought the truck. Same mileage around 102k. Is this a computer problem im only getting about 13-15 mpg with mostly highway miles. Is this something I should fix or just ignore the light.

In order of frequency for causing EGR "flow codes":

1. DFPE sensor
2. DPFE sensor
3. Clogged EGR ports
4. Clogged EGR ports
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.....EGR valve

hate to sound stupid

but the egr valve was just replaced..are you saying theres other items that would create an egr problem that need to be fixed as well

He's saying it's rarely the valve.
It's often clogged EGR ports.
They are easliy cleaned.

any placei can look to find out how to do that

sorry im 18 and this is the first car I bought...is there a website or some book that can take me throught the cleaning process bc itt cant be too great to just ignore the light
