Oil Leak Help

I am leaking oil some where on top of the motor. Its down in the valley behind the fuel filter. Does anybody know what might be causing this leak. Oil is running down the back side of the motor and its really bugging me. The leak is not bad but would like to get it fixed. Thanks in advance for your help.

It's possible that it is a leaking High Pressure Oil Line/Connection or leaking Drain Valve (Yellow Handle) on the Fuel Bowl. It may require a new High Pressure line or new O-Rings at the connection. Alternately, if it is the Drain Valve, may require new O-Rings.

I do know its not the high pressure oil lines. I have already checked that. I think its comming from back behind the turbo somewhere.

I have a very similar leak right now. From what i have searched on this site the turbo pedestal o-rings have a high fail rate. After looking at my leak and trying to see where it was coming from i believe it is the ebpv and i read that you have to rebuild the turbo if this is the case. Mine started small and got to be pretty big now.

Where did you get that info? If your turbo bearing and shaft assembly are OK, you just need to fix a seal. Something I don't know about?

Also, dbaker, if it is in the valley it may be coming from the front or the pedestal. You need to clean it real well, dry it off, and then pinpoint the source.

i just had a similar problem on ex, i was driving home and saw smoke blowing from behind. got it home and to the stealership next day. they found the problem was a high pressue oil seal. thing was about an inch across. $250 later and a new icp sensor (another $250), i was on my way.

Tenn, i posted about my turbo leak a couple of weeks ago and that was the response that i got. I beleive mine is leaking from a rod that comes out of the side of the turbo pedestal and then goes up to the ebpv. That was the highest place that i could see oil, i never physically saw oil coming out of anywhere. The oil was mostly on the the passenger side where the ebpv is. I was told that if this is where the oil is coming from it is a hard seal of some kind and the turbo will need to be rebuilt. Was i misinformed?

I don't know Ponch. I've not been into mine and I must have missed the post. I will look for it as it does not seem to make sense unless one of the bearing seals is gone. Kris has had his apart and may chime in. I must do some research.

The ebpv valve is part of the pedistal.

Yeah I found it, Kris need not reply. Here's his post:

"I had replaced my pedestal rings a few times when removing the turbo, and it still didnt fix my leak. It ended up being the rod that comes out of the pedestal for the EBPV linkage had a "hardened" seal on it. You can get a rebuilt kit for the pedestal from (i believe) Dieselsite, or do like i did and eliminate the EBPV all together with a new pedestal without the actuator cast in it. I had oil on the right side of the engine and not so much on the left, and a nice thick stream of oil baked on my downpipe to the first flange."

So it appears it would not be a turbo rebuild after all. I believe he was saying that the seal had hardened and was no longer pliable, then leaked. I suppose it did not go to the dealer then?
