I would add to that the fact that the 5th wheel tongue weight is 4 times as heavy as a bumper pull and that's why you don't want to put all that weight behind the axle.
I've driven both as well, (the bumper pull was a boat on a trailer) and the stability of the 5th wheel setup is much better. You can't even make the 5th wheel trailer wag like bumper pulls, they just follow you wherever you go.
