98 mountaineer trans
Hi. I have a 98 mountaineer 5.0 2wd 64k miles with the 4r70w trans(aode) that I purchased from a friend and the truck has the following issue. The problem is this. Hot or Cold the trans will not shift 2-3 except above 3500rpm and I lift off the gas,it then shifts with a thump and locks up the t/c. 1-2 shift is ok and the other shifts are ok. I disconnected the battery as other posters suggested with no luck. Anyone know
1. Can the trans t/c lock up in 3rd gear if conditions are correct and will it then shift to 4th while the t/c is locked up?
2. What inputs controls the 2/3 shift pattern... solenoid signal comes from the ecm with what parameters.
3.Any idea what the problem is. It appears the solenoid is ok as it does finally shift. I will try all suggestions.
