Hi all.
I pulled a PO455 on my 1998 F150.
How hard is this to fix and where is the little bugger?
I also keep having a mis-fire in number 3. I've replaced the plug, it runs good for a few days then I pull a code on number 3, again. I'll do wires next but it is just weird. got any ideas?
Also, any tips on replacing the left headlamp?
Thanks
Pat
For the P0455, check your gascap. A loose cap or one with a damaged seal along with a mess of other things can cause this fault code. Try the easy one first.
Fixing the #3 misfire depends on what engine you have. If a 4.6 or 4.2 (you didn't say), the wire is a likely place to start.
Headlamp bulbs plug into the rear of the highlight assembly. If there's stuff in the way, it will have to be moved so you can get in there.
Thanks
I'll try what you said.
I have the 4.6.
Just for the future, can you tell me where the "evac" is? And how hard is it to change out?
Really appreciate the help.
Can't stand to pay for someone else to work on my truck if I don't have to.
Evac? I'm not totally sure what tha code is you posted(don't have a code list on me) but going from the gas cap comment i'm guessing evap leak? The vent solenoids are also a known culpret if you frequent dirty roads. They get dust in them and the valves stick open.
While they are likely not connected, it is possible to throw misfire codes with a EVAP problem. I had a hose pull part way out of the EVAP canister in my Mustang a few years ago. Along with the P0455 code, it had a random misfire code showed up. You could clear it and it might return right away, or it might be gone for a day or so.
It certainly would not be unheard of. For misfire codes P0301-P0310, it list possible causes as: Ignition system
Fuel injectors
Running out of fuel EVAP canister purge valve
Fuel pressure Evaporative emission system
Base engine
Like I said, probably not related, but when I saw this I thought I would mention it.
P0445 Evaporative Emission Control System Purge Control Valve Circuit Shorted
clear the fault, unplug the purge valve and see if you get
P0447 Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit Open.if so you have a bad purge valve.if it remains a 0455 shorted you have a wire problem.possibly from a rub though against something.
heres a link to a very good web site for finding a codes meaning and what to look for http://www.obd-codes.com/
