I'd check the tie rod ends and steering linkages. Then the rag joint between the steering wheel and the box. The bearing in the bottom of the steering column sometimes goes too. If that don't fix it then replace the gear box.
Sloppy? As in too much slack in the steering wheel before it responds? Check the rag joint as dwoodler said and also adjust the slack in the steering gear box.
Sloppy? As in you hold the steering wheel still and the tires go all over the place? Again as dwoodler said check all of you tie rod ends and steering linkages. Also check your upper and lower ball joints on the A arms and the bushings in the A arms. Oh yea, make sure you check your wheel bearings for play.
will do thanks for the help. and its play as in i steer to the right and then have to over steer to get it to go strait again. i think i will start with the gear box. is there a nut to tighten or a screw to ajust the slack? thanks again for the help
