I have a 88 f150 that is completly stock. I just joined the navy and am planning on bringing it to my new duty station in Charleston, SC from Pensacola, FL. The problem with that is that in the past i have had problems with it overheating on long drives at 75 mph. since I am driving it a very long distance and I plan on doing this numerous times I was wondering what I might need to look into in the lines of a radiator upgrade, possibly a larger one and where I might be able to find one that will just bolt up.
Some things to consider; (Would be nice to know what engine, type of drive, etc)
Can go from single to 2 row radiator but shroud probably won't fit right.
Have you had a radiator shop check flow thru the one you have , unless it's been replaced, the tubes are likely plugged.
Have you checked timing base setting - probably 10 degrees depending on engine and to meke sure the computer ois advancing the timing on acceleration (SPOUT installed).
Check lower radiator hose to be sure it is not collapsing on acceleration.
Check to be sure that the radiator fins are not clogged with dirt, leaves bugs, etc (can backflush with a water or air hose to check)
Can provide name of one shop here in Chas area - PM me if interested.
