I'm tring to fix the problem (code 332) on a 1993 F-150, 4x4,4.9. I've vacuum tested the egr and it opens. the engine has good vacuum. Run most of the electrical tests on the egr and evr but after running the truck down the road a couple miles the CEL comes back on. Colud anyone help point me in the right direction? Thanks Scott
The EGR valve codes can be kind of hard to figure out sometimes. Since you verified that the egr valve will open it eliminates that. I'm not that familiar with a 93, but if you backtrack the vaccum line from the EGR valve to what ever it connects to and see if that is your problem.
You have to remember that the EGR valve does not open all the time. A lot of vehicles it will only open above a idle, after it has warmed up to a certain temp. and is not in park or neutral and is actually moving. Thats what makes it hard sometimes to figure out what is wrong with them. Also thats why you have to drive it a little bit before the CEL comes on.
Do you have a manual for your vehicle. That would help a lot in finding the components that are involved in the EGR system.
When our van did the same type of thing I bought a long piece of vacuum hose so that I could attack it to one of the vacuum sources to the egr valve and then attach it to a vacuum gauge and stick inside the vehicle and drive around to see if it actually got vacuum under all the correct conditions
Right below the EGR valve is a thing that the little green vacuum line plugs into. It also has a couple of wires attached to it. My truck ran rough and threw a code that poiunted me to that. I've since forgotten what it's called. Anyway I discovered one of those wire connectors had pushed itself out of the harness instead of pushing itself onto the other connector. I simply used a pair of needle nose pliers to push the wire in. The code never came back. Good luck.
