preppy, I'm not speeding. Usually I can't go more than about 45 on the highways. Just too heavy. But if I am close to the light when it goes yellow, a car could probably stop, but there is no way I can. Then it changes when I'm in the middle. I try and look ahead at the lights but sometimes I go around a bend and there is another I didn't see. I just can't go any slower. It usually takes about 1 1/2 hours to get to work as it is. I stay off the turnpikes etc. because I go too slow there and cause problems. without the 12K trailer it is not so bad. I never try and run the light. I stop whenever I can. I just get caught in it.
It's just another example of government greed. No outside company should be involved. I like the idea daddio mentioned about national standardizing and a countdown to the yellow. The government won't like it. Less money for them.
I didnt mean to imply you were speeding, just meant that a guy that hauls a heavy load must slow down. If other drivers cant see that, or accept it, who cares. I was taught that you need to look out for everyones safety when you are driving, including your own. If people get mad at you for going slow, so be it, let them give you the finger, and drive slow, and you wont be getting any tickets! Unless you drive really really slow.
Chilliwack is in the lower mainland in bc, close vancouver. It is kind of colder there right now, and I am actually in my hometown province of saskatchewan, where yes it is cold right now lol. Whats it like in NJ?
50 during the day and about 35 at night. I don't know how you guys stand it up there. I hate the cold and the lack of sun. I should have been born in Arizona. What do you get for summer.... about a day and a half? I have a friend in Maine. He said it never gets warm enough to swim where he is. You must be worse than that.
I'm for the cameras, if they can make them somewhat accurate. I got a ticket a couple months ago for driving through the easy pass lane in Delaware. Problem was, I've never drove to Delaware...it was a white SUV that they caught, and sent the ticket to me in my red F-150. The picture they attached to the ticket was so fuzzy you couldn't even guess what it actually said.

Sorry for the hijack guys.
You need to get out more and learn about the world.
There are places in Canada in the winter that are warmer than New York, Michigan, Conn,Vt,RI,Ohio.
The BC interior is usually the warmest.
Osoyoos @ the BC /Wa border usually gets about 14*C or 74*F during the winter.
If Peppy was at Chilliwack right now he would be floating. they have had tons of rain this last while.
The biggest problem is with people who don't understand what the meaning of the yellow (formerly amber) light means.
It means Clear The Intersection
Here, the yellow light means proceed with caution. You can legally be in the intersection when the light turns to red. If you choose to stop on a yellow, up to you.
My town has been known to run reds for as long as I can remember. Usually just on certain intersections, two or three cars will follow through with the car that went on a yellow. Seems like most were used to it. If you are first in line at a red, you make sure the intersection is clear, before proceeding on green.
Then the police wanted to get cameras, so they took a reporter to the worst intersection and showed her what was happening and a write-up was done. Now we have cameras.
I noticed they changed the signal timing and now all the lights stay red for a second or two. Eventually, this will be safer, but for now they are ticketing both the people that follow through behind yellow and the people that sit at red and wait for the yellow to turn red to proceed.
I don't like the cameras. The lights should only be an indicator and the actual traffic in the intersection should determine how you should proceed. The city should not partner with a for-profit company to double dip what I already pay taxes to do.
Hmmm....75 bucks for a fine vs how much is going to cost you when the a-hole behind you runs into you because you don't know how long that yellow light is and whether you should lock up the brakes trying to bring a 8000 lb truck to a stop.
Yeah...ill take my chances. The other light doesn't turn green simultaneous with yours turning red.
Its a no brainer. I have run a few red lights as my rear bumper cleared the white line. Some yellows are short, some are long.
Sounds like the camera is adjusted a little too quick if you ask me.
Mil1ion, I always thought it was pretty simple. You go north you get cold, you go south you get warm. I guess the world according to Trike is a little flawed. I didn't think you guys up north ever got warm weather, it was all ice and penguins. I never went north more than past Niagra Falls. Maybe I should look at things a little closer.
As for the topic at hand. I was on a road today, 2 lanes each way, with a speed limit at 40. The yellow was less than 3 seconds at 2 lights. The others were not much more. I was going slow and had no trouble, but they never changed when I was on top of the light either. Less than 3 seconds seems a bit fast.
They should have changed NJ from "The Garden State" to "The Gestapo State" a long time ago.
Yo Dave.
Don't look now, but Delaware also has red light cameras. I know, because my daughter just got a notice in the mail, with a picture showing her car in the intersection with the light red on. The fine is 75.00 but no points. Also, the camera company gets a cut.
