Hey guys, Ive received some great info before, so im hoping you can help me again. Im trying to decide what to do for the top end build of my 460. Its a real low budget build, just something to get the truck moving and have a little fun with friday nights at the street legal drags. So ive got my bottom end all figgured out, got a killer deal on some fordracing parts form a guy who never used them. My pistons should give me about 10:1 comp.. and im running the M-6250-A460 cam. I had planed on getting the heads ported, but im tight on $$ so im prob just gunna have them cleaned up a bit, or mild port. But i need sugestions for lifters, pushrods, valvesprings, should i go with a dual setup with the dampers in them??,and all the rest of that stuff...And im woundering if anyone knows much about the conversion that i thingk craincams sells, to convert to roller rockers, without having any machining done... Any imput would be much appricated.
Standard Abrassives has a tech article on their website on how to port heads and intakes. Mind you this is a basic cover all tech article but it does help. Porting your own heads is pretty easy to do. The one area that can help alot is to remove the smog/air injection humps inside the exhaust ports if you have D3VE castings. Gasket matching your heads also pays off a little. I have seen the conversion kit on ebay. Just be sure to ask if they are new or used.
Call ford or one of the spring manufaturers for what springs are needed with the cam you chose. 5/16 hardened pushrods will be a must for use with guide plates. Find out if your machine shop has a pushrod length checker that you might be able to use. It's better to find out now rather then after your needing new valve guides from a misaligned rocker arm.
